President Joseph arrived in Greece on an official visit discussing Lebanese-Greek relations and ways to develop and strengthen them in all fields. President Aoun met with his Greek counterpart, Constantinos Tasoulas, and thanked Greece for the warm reception and its constant support for Lebanon politically, humanitarianly and militarily. Aoun stressed that the two countries seek to develop relations at various levels, in a way that serves their common interests. Aoun stressed that the stability of Lebanon is necessary for the stability of the region and Europe, pointing out that any disturbance there will have broad negative repercussions. Aoun reiterated that Lebanon is tired of wars, stressing that the goal of the negotiations is to end the state of hostility with Israel. Aoun said: “It is time for Lebanon to rest, and we are determined to end the state of hostility, and the solution is through diplomacy, not war.” In turn, the Greek President affirmed that Lebanon is a friend of Greece, pointing to the historical relations between the two countries. He addressed Aoun by saying: “We are well aware of the great task entrusted to you in leading Lebanon, and we are certain that you will succeed and we are by your side.” He added, "The talks between Lebanon and Israel help Lebanon enjoy independence and prosperity, as well as implement Resolution 1701." Tasoulas stressed his country's support for "the establishment of an independent Lebanon," stressing that Greece will do everything in its power to "expand and strengthen relations between Lebanon and the European Union."
